Any results indicated by this tool can only be considered as an estimate, due to uncertainty in data sources and calculations, as it is based on the simple modelling of a photovoltaic system and relies on user inputs. Therefore, the use of this tool does not provide any kind of system performance guarantee.

Assumptions

• Currently, this tool is only prepared to receive requests for locations in France, Portugal, Spain, Italy and United Kingdom.
• For the calculations on PV system output, PVGis [1] was used according to a set of user inputs.
• The yield of the system is calculated by looking at which way the roof points and where your roof is in the country.
• A generic load pattern of a typical household consumption, scaled to the user’s yearly consumption, is used to calculate the system behavior throughout the year.
• Flat roofs (0º) are assumed to have a mounting structure with a 30º tilt.
• Only equipment prices were considered and are with VAT.
• The results displayed at the end of the simulation are rough estimates, which consider a south orientation and an optimal tilt for the photovoltaic system. If results are requested by e-mail, a more accurate solution will be shown based on all user inputs.
• Electricity prices considered for needed calculations are VAT included and are the following (per kWh): 21ct for Portugal, 18 ct for France, 24ct for Spain, 23ct for Italy and 19p for the United Kingdom.
• For payback time estimation, only savings from grid-bought electricity are considered. Other sources of income such as feed-in tariffs, selling green certificates or subsidies were not considered and should be analyzed individually according to the location of your system.
• The performance of solar systems is impossible to predict with certainty due to the variability in the amount of solar irradiation (sunlight) from location and from year to year. Estimates are given as guidance only. It should not be considered a guarantee of performance.
